The silver rounds are packaged individually in plastic flips and represent a new option in the series. Previous releases in this series include a traditional proof and two weights in antique versions of the designs. The antique silver rounds were struck in 1 oz and 5 oz silver.
The Anonymous Mint now offers the Loki design once again in 2020, but this time it is available on 1 oz BU silver rounds and 1 oz gold-plated silver rounds. The release of the Loki silver round follows that of Odin, Thor, Hel, and Freya. The images used in this series are the same as the original designs from artist Howard David Johnson. Each image has been created on a silver blank by Italian Master Sculptor Luigi Badia.
On the obverse side of the 1 oz Norse God Series Loki Silver Round is an image of Loki. He is featured standing with his battle armor on while holding a staff in his left hand. One of the common symbols representative of Loki is a fish and it is found near his feet in this design element. Norse mythology suggests that Loki was a member of a race of giants, and some writings have said that he is also a brother of Odin, the All-Father God.
The reverse side of the 1oz Norse God Series Loki Silver Round comes with a depiction of a Valkyrie. The Valkyrie were a race of warrior maidens selected by Odin to determine who lives and who dies in the battles of mankind. The Valkyrie would ride on powerful steeds in the clouds above the battles of men selecting those who died honorably for passage to Valhalla. Those chosen to go to Valhalla will live forever, drinking, eating, and fighting amongst one another in eternal glory.
