Like other notes issued by the United States in the early 20th century, the debut of the Federal Reserve Bank Notes in 1915 came in the so-called large-sized format. These notes were significantly larger than the notes now in production in the United States. In 1929, the new small-sized format was introduced with the Federal Reserve Bank Notes and Federal Reserve Notes featuring the same images on the obverse and reverse. One significant difference between the two was the backing of the notes. Federal Reserve Notes are backed collectively by all 12 branches, while Federal Reserve Bank Notes are backed individually by the branch that issued the notes into circulation.
All of these 1929 $20 Federal Reserve Bank Notes are available in Choice Uncirculated condition. Notes in this condition may have slight imperfections with the centering of the portrait prints with the potential for minor flaws from handling. However, you will find no fold lines on the notes. JM Bullion guarantees each 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Note offered here is in Choice Uncirculated condition.
We do not guarantee the exact Federal Reserve Bank name you’ll find on the obverse of the note. There are 12 Federal Reserve Bank branches, with each individual bank’s name printed on the obverse to the left of President Jackson.
On the obverse of 1929 $20 Federal Reserve Bank Notes is the effigy of President Andrew Jackson. When the Federal Reserve Bank Notes were redesigned in 1929 and resized to the small-sized format, President Jackson’s bust was moved from the $10 note to the $20 note and accompanied by a new reverse design. President Jackson replaced President Grover Cleveland on the obverse of the $20 note.
The reverse of the 1929 $20 Federal Reserve Bank Note comes with an image of the White House. This replaced the image of transportation vignettes that had featured on the reverse of the large-sized note.
