Each 1991 1 oz Chinese Silver Panda Coin offered here comes in a plastic capsule. These 1991 specimens are so-called Large Date issues. The coins were struck by the Shanghai Mint and the term Large Date refers to the bulkier numerals for the date mark 1991 on the reverse of the coin.
Giant Pandas are found in the mountainous regions of central China, mainly in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. They inhabit dense bamboo forests located at elevations between 5,000 and 10,000 feet (1,500 to 3,000 meters) above sea level.
The obverse of the 1991 Chinese Silver Panda features a depiction of a seated panda. The Giant Panda is sitting next to a small pond eating bamboo. Giant Pandas primarily feed on bamboo, with around 99% of their diet consisting of various bamboo species. They have a special adaptation in their digestive system, including a pseudo-thumb formed from an enlarged wrist bone, which helps them grip and strip bamboo efficiently.
On the reverse side of 1991 1 oz Silver Panda Coins, you will find the image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. Constructed in the early 15th century, the Hall is the central building within the Temple of Heaven Complex. The complex itself is a Taoist religious site in the city of Beijing.
