Historically, giant pandas were found throughout southern and eastern China, as well as in Myanmar and northern Vietnam. However, due to habitat destruction and fragmentation, they are now restricted to mountain ranges in central China, primarily in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces.
Giant pandas are solitary animals, except during the mating season and when raising cubs. They have a low reproductive rate, with females typically giving birth to a single cub every two years. Cubs stay with their mothers for about 1.5 to 3 years before becoming independent.
The obverse of 1993 1 oz Silver Panda Coins comes with a depiction of the Giant Panda. Each date in this series features a new obverse depiction of the Giant Panda, with the exception of the 2002 coin. In 1993, the mint featured a Giant Panda seated in left-profile relief on a rock ledge with bamboo shoots featured in the design field.
On the reverse side of the 1993 Chinese Silver Panda coin is the image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. The design is featured annually on the reverse of these coins and shows the exterior of the building that serves as the center of the Temple of Heaven Complex.
These 1993 1 oz Chinese Silver Panda Coins are available for purchase in sealed plastic pouches. These coins feature distinguishing large date marks, indicating they were struck at the Shanghai Mint. The mintage of 1993 Silver Pandas as Shanghai was roughly one-third the volume of the 1993 Silver Pandas issued at the Shenyang Mint with small date marks.
