The Chinese Silver Panda is a popular coin series from the Chinese Mint that has been available since 1983. While it’s early releases were all proof, the series has made a name for itself by changing the obverse images of the Giant Panda each year. In fact, there’s only been one repeat design in the program’s history. Now, 1995 1 oz Chinese Silver Panda Coins are available for purchase online at JM Bullion.

When the Chinese Mint introduced the Silver Panda in 1983, the coin was only available as a proof specimen that contained less than 1 Troy oz of .900 silver content. These coins were issued as such through 1985 and paused in 1986. In 1987, the coins were again issued with proof quality and now featured 1 Troy oz of .925 sterling silver. After a pause in 1988, the coins resumed production in 1988 as 1 Troy oz specimens with .999 pure silver.
Throughout its history, the iconic Giant Panda has been the focus of the design on these coins. Despite conservation efforts, genetic diversity remains a concern among captive giant panda populations. Inbreeding depression can lead to health problems and reduced reproductive success. Efforts are ongoing to maintain genetic diversity through careful breeding management.
The obverse of the 1995 1 oz Silver Panda Coin features the image of a Giant Panda in the branches of a tree. At the Y junction of the tree trunk, the panda leans toward one side with its legs up against the other as it dines on leaves.
On the reverse side of 1995 Chinese Silver Pandas, the mint features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This design was remained on the reverse for all years of issue in this series and depicts the largest building in the Temple of Heaven Complex.
These 1995 1 oz Chinese Silver Panda Coins are housed in protective plastic capsules. If you look at the reverse side of the Silver Panda beneath the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, you’ll notice what is known as Micro Date on the coin. The text is more compact for this date mark than other issues in the series.
