The Year of the Snake is part of the larger 12-year cycle in the Chinese zodiac, which includes the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (or Sheep), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each of these animal signs is also associated with one of the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water), creating a 60-year cycle with different combinations of animal signs and elements.
All of these 2001 1 oz Australian Silver Lunar Snake Coins are available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These coins are offered to you in protective plastic flips and had an original, declared mintage of 71,301 coins in total. While Lunar Series I gold coins launched in 1996, Lunar Series I silver coins did not launch until 1999 with the Year of the Rabbit, making the Year of the Snake release the third in the silver series.
On the obverse of the 2001 Australian Silver Lunar Snake Coin, you will find a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. This right-profile depiction of Her Majesty was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and depicts the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
The reverse side of 2001 1 oz Silver Lunar Snake Coins comes with an image of snakes for the Year of the Snake. In this design, a female snake is shown with several of her eggs nearby. If you look closely, you’ll notice that a small snake is hatching from one of those eggs.
