Each 2011 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin in this product listing from JM Bullion has a BU condition. Coins in BU condition exhibit no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice a range of minor flaws that include breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks from the coining process.
The last time the American Gold Eagle hit an anniversary date was 2006 when the US Mint celebrated the 20th anniversary of the coin’s release. While that year saw the expansion of the program with the introduction of a third version of the coin, the burnished collector’s piece, 2011 saw no increased offerings in the program.
Although 2011 1 oz American Gold Eagle coins, along with the other fractional weight options in the bullion program, saw declines in mintage over the last two years, the overall trend was staying higher than it had at any other point in the coin’s history. In fact, mintage of American Gold Eagle coins from 2008 to the present have marked the highest 9-year stretch in the program’s history.
On the obverse of all 2011 1 oz American Gold Eagle coins you’ll find the image of Liberty developed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Saint-Gaudens was chosen personally by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905 to lead a revival in American coin design, and this creation has proven to be the most popular in American history.
The reverse of the American Gold Eagle coin features the exclusive nesting bald eagle design. Created by Miley Busiek especially for the Gold Eagle program in 1986, it includes a female bald eagle watching over a nest full of hatchlings while the male is depicted flying above with an olive branch in its talons.
