Each 2016 British Silver Monkey coin in this listing from JM Bullion is a near-perfect specimen. The NGC issues MS69 grades to coins with their full, original mint luster. As a near-perfect coin, you’ll notice a maximum of two minor detracting flaws present on the surface of these coins.
A bullion coin with a DPL designation is a standard bullion struck coin with features of a proof specimen. The surface of these coins exhibits a deeply-mirrored finish, with frosted proof-like designs as well.
The Royal Mint’s Shengxiao Series debuted in 2014 with the Year of the Horse coin. All three coins, including this one, were designed by Wuon-Gean Ho. On the obverse of each coin is the first update to Queen Elizabeth II’s profile. Unveiled in July 2015, Her Majesty’s new portrait was created by 33-year-old Jody Clark, the youngest artist to complete a rendering of the Queen for British currency.
On the reverse you’ll find the image of Rhesus monkeys swinging from the trees. Engravings read “Year of the Monkey,” and include the coin’s weight, metal content, purity, and year of issue, along with the Chinese symbol for monkey.
The obverse bears Clark’s new right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Along with Her Majesty’s image are the initials “JC,” and engravings of the coin’s face value, Her Majesty’s name, and the phrase “D G Reg F D.”
