Each of the 2018 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Griffin Coins in this product listing is in BU condition. Coins in this condition exhibit no signs of wear and tear but may feature minor flaws as a result of the coining process. Those minor flaws are limited to breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks.
The Griffin of Edward III is the second design release from the Royal Mint’s bullion coin series of Queen’s Beast coins and now is the second design to feature the new larger 10 oz silver coin and a 1 oz platinum option as well. Edward III is associated with the Griffin in British heraldry after he emblazoned it upon his private seal.
On the obverse of the British Silver Queen’s Beast Coins, you’ll find the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty had all 10 creatures represented in this series present in statue form at her 1953 coronation. This is the fifth-generation effigy of Her Majesty on British coinage, and it was created in 2015 by Jody Clark, a Royal Mint engraver.
The reverse of the 2018 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast Griffin Coin includes the image of a griffin. This mythical beast is said to be the king of all creatures. With the body of a lion, known as the king of the jungle, and the wings and head of an eagle, the king of the birds, the griffin is the most powerful beast.
Founded in the 8th century, the Royal Mint was originally located in London and was housed in the Tower of London into the 20th century. Today it operates from Wales and strikes coinage for more than 60 other countries around the world.
