Each of the 2021 (P) 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins listed here has a near-perfect certification. The NGC issues a Mint State 69 certification to coins that exhibit full, original mint luster and present with no more than two minor detracting flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws at this level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that are outside of the primary focal points of the coin. The included Early Release designation means the NGC received the coins for grading within 30 days of the US Mints release.
The West Point Mint has been the primary producer of American Eagle coins since 2001. At that time, the US Mint moved production of all versions of the American Silver Eagle to West Point, joining the American Platinum Eagle and American Gold Eagle programs in being produced there. Since 2011, the San Francisco Mint has been providing supplemental assistance as needed to ensure the US Mint produces enough BU Silver Eagles for investors. In 2020, the Philadelphia Mint issued its first BU Silver Eagles in 20 years in an emergency coining program to ensure the release of enough coins.
The obverse side of 2021 (P) 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coins features the Walking Liberty depiction from Adolph A. Weinman. Created in 1916, it depicts Liberty walking in left-profile relief toward the sun as it rises over a mountain peak in the distance.
On the reverse face of the 2021 (P) 1 oz Silver Eagle Coins is a modern version of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This is the final year of availability for the heraldic eagle image. It was modified for use on this coin in 1986 by John Mercanti, a longtime US Mint engraver and artist who finished his career in 2010 as the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
