Canadian Platinum Maple Leafs were first introduced in 1988 alongside the Royal Canadian Mint’s debut of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. The coins were initially issued in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz options. However, in 2003, the program was temporarily suspended amidst sinking demand for platinum bullion coins. In 2009, the mint revived the series, but only returned the 1 oz coin to production.
All of the 2022 1 oz Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf Coins available here are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins ship to you individually in protective flips or by multiples of 10 coins in plastic tubes.
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse of all 2022 Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf Coins. The design shown here was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen to feature on Canadian coinage. This image is the first during her reign to lack a crown, a feature that was prominent in the effigies of her father, King George VI, but has not been used in portraits of the Queen.
The sugar maple leaf is found on the reverse of 2022 1 oz Platinum Maple Leaf Coins. This design has graced the reverse of all versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf, from gold and silver to platinum and palladium. The image is set against a background field of radial lines, just like the obverse portrait of the Queen. This side also includes the micro-laser engraved maple leaf privy mark that includes the digits 22 at the center as a verification of the date of issue.
