Aphrodite is the latest Greek goddess to be commemorated by the Perth Mint’s landmark Gods of Olympus coin series. She was a complex figure to the ancient Greeks, representing love and lust, beauty and passion, pleasure and procreation. She was a patroness of courtesans and of many luxuries that improved mortal life, such as gardens or beauty oils, but she also represented the more dangerous side of passion, which could drive men and gods alike into conflict. The famous image of her being birthed from sea foam happens in the wake of a clash among Titans, and features on the Perth Mint’s 2022 1 oz Tuvalu Gods of Olympus Aphrodite Silver Coin.

The most iconic image associated with Aphrodite comes from the ancient poet Hesiod, whose Theogony tells of the origins and genealogies of the gods. In that poem, she arose from a foaming sea in the wake of a violent clash between the Titans Ouranos and Kronos. That theme has been the subject of countless paintings and sculptures for hundreds of years, and the Perth Mint adds to that legacy with this beautiful bullion collectible. It features an engraving of the goddess risen from the waves with creatures of the sea surrounding her and a swan, one of her sacred animals, spreading its wings in the foreground at the bottom rim.
The 2022 Tuvalu Gods of Olympus Aphrodite Silver Coin offers a Brilliant Uncirculated finish, preserving its original-mint luster. It comes in themed packaging inside a secure plastic capsule, with each shipment tracked and fully insured against loss or damage by the team at JM Bullion.
The obverse side of the coin features Ian Rank-Broadley’s famous effigy of the late Queen Elizabeth II to confirm it as legal tender. Her image is accompanied by the inscriptions “1 oz 9999 Ag,” “2022,” “TUVALU,” “1 DOLLAR,” and “QUEEN ELIZABETH II.”
The coin’s reverse side shows Aphrodite in her flowing robes, with a dove in one hand and surrounded by sea creatures like dolphins, fish, gulls, and mollusks as she emerges from the waves. The swan in the foreground is accompanied by the inscription “APHRODITE.”
