The British Gold Sovereign coin has a rich history that dates back to its introduction in 1817. First released during the reign of King George III, these coins were originally circulation pieces that were revived in the 20th century as modern gold bullion specimens following World War II. In the modern era, no monarch featured on the coins more frequently than Queen Elizabeth II. Today, 2022 British Gold Memorial Sovereigns in certified condition are available at JM Bullion.

British Gold Sovereigns have featured various monarchs since 1817, but as a gold bullion specimen issued for investors, Elizabeth II was the only monarch the series knew. Her death in 2022 resulted in a changing of the guard for the first time in decades.
Aside from her appearance on coins, Elizabeth II’s record-breaking reign is remember for many factors. For example, Her Majesty oversaw significant changes in the royal family’s public image. She allowed the televising of the royal family’s daily life in 1969 and opened Buckingham Palace to the public in 1993 to help fund the restoration of Windsor Castle.
On the obverse of 2022 British Sovereign Coins, you will find the final effigy of Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief at the age of 89. In this portrait, she wears the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. This effigy was created in 2015 by Jody Clark.
The reverse side of 2022 Gold Sovereigns features a design of the Royal Arms created by Timothy Noad. Emblematic of the monarchy, it includes a shield with the coats of arms for England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The shield is supported on the coin’s left by the Lion of England and on the coin’s right by the Unicorn of Scotland.
These 2022 British Gold Sovereign Coins have Mint State 69 certifications, indicating full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detractions. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines outside the primary focal points. As DPL coins, you’ll notice hints of frosted devices and mirror-like fields. Each of these coins is among the last 500 struck in 2022 by The Royal Mint for the Gold Sovereign Series with Her Majesty’s effigy on the obverse.
