Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins were introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1982. The series had been active as of 1979, but only a 1 oz gold coin was available at that time. The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf currently features four fractional-ounce coins that were introduced over the span of 12 years. One of the first two introduced was the 1/4 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin.
The Royal Canadian Mint issued the first fractional-ounce Gold Maple Leafs in 1982. Rather than starting with a traditional 1/2 oz gold coin, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins in 1982. The other weights would not be added to the series until 1986 and 1994, respectively. The 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf is available annually and offered in individual or bulk listings. JM Bullion offers the 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf with plastic flips or sealed sheets of 20 coins.
