2015 America The Beautiful Coins from JM Bullion

In the late 20th and early 21st century, the United States Mint released a brand-new coin series that honored monuments, parks, forests, and places from American history. The standard circulation quarter in the US received a redesign on its reverse face to honor these different locations, and the program was known as the state quarters program. Following its conclusion in 2009, the United States Mint was prepared to release an all-new series to build on the popularity of the state quarters series.

Introducing the America the Beautiful Quarter

In 2008, Congress authorized the new America the Beautiful quarter with passage of the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act. The legislation called for the production of a coin based upon the design of the United States quarter, but struck in a 5 oz weight and featuring .999 pure silver.

The America the Beautiful coin series is scheduled to include 56 coins in total, with one to represent each of the 50 states in the nation, the District of Columbia, and the five overseas territories of the US: Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam.

Each year the Mint will release five new coin designs, with each state’s representative coin and image released in order that it was established as a federally protected region. The program started in 2010 with the nation’s oldest parks, monuments, or national forests depicted. Congress authorized the program to run through 2021, with the Secretary of the Treasury holding the power to extend the series through 2033.

The representative image chosen for each of the coins in the series is chosen in a collaborative process. This process includes the governor or chief executive from each jurisdiction, the Secretary of the Interior, and the Commemorative Coining Commission. The final design set selected for each coin must be approved by the Secretary of the Treasury before appearance on an America the Beautiful coin.

Meet the 2015 ATB Silver Coins on JM Bullion

The 2015 ATB Silver coins available on JM Bullion represent forests, parks, and even a parkway, from across the country. The details of the coins included in the 2015 series of the ATB program are featured below:

    • Nebraska: Homestead National Monument of America, located in the southeastern corner of the state, is a monument that honors the first tract of land claimed by an American citizen following passage of the Homestead Act by President Lincoln’s administration. The monument was approved on March 19, 1936. A total of only 35,000 coins were minted with this design.
    • Louisiana: Well known for its bayous in the south, the Kisatchie National Forest in the northern stretches of the state includes some of the oldest rock formations in the state, as well as longleaf pine trees. The area was offered protected status on June 3, 1936. Only 42,000 Kisatchie National Forest coins were produced.
    • North Carolina: One of the only coins in the series not to feature a national park or forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a highway that stretches more than 400 miles through the Appalachian Mountains, and connects North Carolina through the mountains to its neighboring state of Virginia. The U.S. Mint produced 45,000 Blue Ridge Parkway coins.
    • Delaware: Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge is located on Delaware Bay along the eastern coast of Kent County. It covers 15,978 acres of land, and was established as a protective region in 1937 under the administration of the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Only 45,000 coins were produced with this design.
    • New York: The final coin released in 2015 honors Saratoga National Historical Park. It was here in 1777 that the Colonial Army struck its first major blow to the British Army during the American Revolutionary War. American victory in Saratoga convinced France to recognize an independent America, and was the first time a major British division surrendered. These coins will be the last released in 2015, with 45,000 total coins produced.

Design of America the Beautiful Quarters

The 2015 ATB Silver Coins available on JM Bullion feature differing images on the reverse side. Each coin features depictions of the park, forest, or monument representing the jurisdiction it is associated with. However, the obverse side of all ATB Silver Coins is the same, regardless of the state it represents.

John Flanagan’s 1932 image of President George Washington has graced American quarters for over 70 years now. His image is based upon the original left-profile bust of the president created in 1786 by sculptor and artist William Cousins. The engraving includes phrases such as “United States of America,” “In God We Trust,” and the face value of each coin.
