Perth Mint Marvel Comic Silver Coins from JM Bullion

When it comes to comics or graphic novels, there are two major houses producing the superheroes that millions have grown up with over the last 70 years. DC Comics brought children of all ages the likes of Superman and Batman, while Marvel Comics is home to Iron Man, Thor, Spiderman, and countless other heroes. If you’ve been to a movie theater in the 21st century, you’ve undoubtedly seen many of these characters. The popularity of Marvel Comics has invaded the precious metals industry as well, with countless stunning collections of silver coins for sale in the modern era.

Perth Mint is a leading producer of comic-themed coins. From its Marvel Series of silver coins to other proof collectible issues, Perth Mint has its finger on the pulse of modern investors and collectors. You can learn all about the various Marvel Silver Coins available from the Perth Mint now!

    Growth of Marvel Cinematic Universe

Though all of the characters featured on Marvel Silver Coins have roots in the original Marvel Comics of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, these recently released silver coins are often timed to debut with big-budget feature films from Hollywood. A movement that started with the Spiderman films in the early 2000s exploded to feature films such as the Iron Man series, Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, and The Avengers series. If you’re a fan of any of the Marvel Comics superheroes, you’re bound to find something in the Perth Mint’s catalog that catches your eye.

Marvel Cinematic Universe is the media franchise responsible for the production of the superhero films mentioned above. Many of the films released by the franchise since 2005 have set box office records at the time of release and some have etched their names in the history books among the highest-grossing films of all time. These characters are all captured in brilliant designs on silver coins from the Perth Mint.

    Marvel Series of Silver Coins

The leading silver bullion collection with Marvel superheroes is the Perth Mint’s Marvel Series. The Marvel Series of silver coins from the Perth Mint was originally planned to feature six designs. Each of these designs was set to debut from the Perth Mint around the same time that a new Marvel Comic Universe feature film was slated to hit theaters around the globe. While the collection launched in 2017 with the Spiderman coin matching up to the release of Spiderman: Homecoming, the program has proven so successful that designs continue to emerge into 2019 without lining up with a new feature film release. Each coin in the collection is originally available inside of individual packaging, mint-sealed rolls of 20 coins, or mint-sealed boxes of 100 coins. The individual coins contain 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver with a face value of $1 that is legal tender backed by the government of Tuvalu. Most importantly, each coin design has a limited mintage of only 50,000 coins.

In this exciting series, you’ll find all of your favorite Marvel Comic superheroes, including:

    • 2017 Spiderman Coin: Spiderman made his comic debut in August 1962 and was the first teenage superhero in Marvel Comics issues. The timid high schooler Peter Parker found himself with impressive strength, web-slinging abilities, and incredible maneuverability following a spider bite.
    • 2018 Thor Coin: Thor is one of the gods of Norse mythology and is the son of Odin, father of the gods. He is a popular figure in comics, where his superhero alter-ego wields an all-powerful hammer that no other man or god can control.
    • 2018 Black Panther Coin: T’Challa is the leader of the fictional African nation of Wakanda and became the first African-American superhero featured prominently as the main character in Marvel Comics.
    • 2018 Iron Man Coin: Tony Stark is an American business magnate and playboy, but his brilliant mind also allowed him to create a super suit that healed a chest injury he sustained and gave him the ability to fight crime in a manner unlike any other superhero.
    • 2018 Deadpool Coin: Arguably one of the cult favorites in the Marvel Universe, the Deadpool design features the image of the wise-cracking superhero. Deadpool first featured in The New Mutants in February 1991 and would evolve into somewhat of an antiheroic individual. A disfigured former mercenary, Deadpool has the superhuman ability of accelerated healing and physical prowess. The design on the reverse of these coins depicts his figure standing in a defiant pose with arms crossed and his swords sheathed behind him.
    • 2019 Captain America Coin: Among the most iconic Marvel Universe superheroes in America, Captain America was created by Timely Comics in 1941 as the world was immersed in World War II. Captain America is portrayed as a patriotic superhero who often fought against the Axis powers in World War II. Wearing his iconic, American-themed suit and wielding his powerful shield with a vibrant American star, Captain America has appeared in countless modern Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Portrayed by Chris Evans in each, Captain America has appeared in 10 feature films since 2012. Only Iron Man has appeared more consistently.
    • 2019 Hulk Coin: Hulk is perhaps the wildest of the superheroes from Marvel Comics. Dr. Bruce Banner is the alter ego of Hulk, a beast created after Banner was exposed to gamma rays during the test detonation of a new bomb. While Banner is mild-mannered and socially awkward, Hulk is an overpowering beast with little to no impulse control. Neither character can tolerate the idea of the alter ego. The reverse of this coin features Hulk ready to “smash” it up with one fist raised in the air.
    • 2020 Venom Coin: Venom is one of the more interesting characters in the Marvel Universe in that the creature is not a singular entity. Instead, the figure is best defined as an amorphous figure that requires a host body in order to take over and get its own way with the host. The Venom figure, as featured here, is most commonly associated with the Spiderman franchise.
    • 2021 Wolverine Coin: The powerful figure of Wolverine is one of the most conflicted in the Marvel Universe. His soul seems tortured and his debut in the 1970s capitalized the counterculture movement of the era that found a receptive audience in a flawed hero. Wolverine uses his adamantium claws with deadly effect on his enemies, but it is willingness to use deadly force without much remorse that makes him the perfect anti-hero.

All of the coins in the Marvel Comics collection from Perth Mint have the same obverse design. On the obverse of each coin is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown in a right-profile portrait originally designed in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley for the Royal Mint of England. The design depicts Her Majesty around the age of 70 with the golden wedding crown on her head.

Marvel Series Silver Coin Set In Card

Six of the seven designs in the Marvel Series are available in a limited-issue collection that features individual blister pack cards for each of the coins. These coins are available as a collective six-coin set or individually. The available designs in this collection include:

    • 2018 Thor
    • 2018 Black Panther
    • 2018 Iron Man
    • 2018 Deadpool
    • 2019 Captain America
    • 2019 Hulk
    • 2020 Venom
    • 2021 Wolverine

As noted above, each of these coins debuted in the collection with a total mintage of 50,000 coins in all. These limited-issue versions include just 1,000 available coins from each design. The six-coin set also has a limited issue of only 1,000 sets. In the six-coin set, the Perth Mint Marvel Series coins are available with a themed shipping sleeve, and each individual card is separable from the set.

For each of the individual Marvel Series coins in this set, the blister card is available with full-color artwork on the obverse side that matches the design featured on the reverse of the coin. The reverse side of the coin is packaged in the blister card to match the obverse design side on the card so the two images of the superhero together. The reverse side of the card showcases the obverse of the coin and includes identifying information for the specific coin release, including its weight, purity, metal content, face value, mintage, and date mark.

    Proof Collectible Marvel Silver Coins

The Perth Mint also offers one-time, collectible coins with Marvel Universe designs. At the heart of the designs are the superheroes of Marvel Comics, much like the bullion Marvel Series coins above. However, these coins are proof versions that typically have a frosted design element with mirrored background fields. Additionally, there is often colorization added to the design for greater collectability and much lower mintage figures. In some cases, proof collectible Marvel Silver Coins are available in different weights, such as 2 Troy oz of silver.

Examples of proof Marvel Silver coins include the following examples:

    • Dr. Strange Silver Coin: Issued by the Perth Mint in 2017 for the nation of Tuvalu, this 2 oz silver coin had .999 pure silver content and a limited mintage of 2,500 coins. Each coin was available in a themed, wooden case with a COA and featured a reverse design of the Sanctum Sanctorum used by Dr. Strange.
    • Black Panther Silver Coin: Issued in 2018 by the Perth Mint for Tuvalu, the Black Panther coin also had a mintage of 2,500 coins in total, but featured .9999 pure silver content and just 1 Troy oz of silver. This coin depicted Black Panther in a colorized design on the reverse face.
    • Thanos Silver Coin: Released to coincide with Avengers: Infinity War, the Thanos coin is a 2 oz silver coin with .999 pure silver content and an antique finish. Issued for Fiji, this coin has a colorized vision of Thanos on the reverse and a beautiful antique finish that lends the visual appeal of ancient coinage to the design elements.
