Other British Silver Coins available from JM Bullion

Like many other major sovereign mints around the world, the Royal Mint of England produces a number of long-standing, popular silver coins for sale. The common silver bullion coins issued by the Royal Mint include the likes of the British Silver Britannia, the Queen’s Beast Series, the Shengxiao Series of lunar-themed coins, and Royal Arms Series. Outside of these programs, you will find a variety of other British silver coins available from the Royal Mint that attract investors and collectors, as well as coins produced by the most prominent private mint in the United Kingdom, the Pobjoy Mint.

    The Valiant Series

One of the most important cultural tales from Medieval Britain is that of St. George. Riding upon a small kingdom that had been besieged by a dragon and forced to sacrifice its young women to satisfy the beast, St. George stepped in to defend the kingdom. The king and queen had recently sent their own daughter to the dragon when George arrived, so he rode out to meet the beast. It has been popularly retold over centuries that St. George rode his horse out to challenge the dragon and was able to slay it with his spear and sword. In 2019, the Royal Mint introduced the new British Silver Valiant Series. Below are some of the important details of the collection:

    • Reverse features a depiction of St. George on horseback as he rides over the dragon and spears it in the heart.
    • Obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II in the right-profile relief created in July 2015 by Jody Clark.
    • Coins feature .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
    • The Royal Mint offers the coins in 1 Troy oz and 10 Troy oz options with face values in Pound sterling.

    Commemorative 007, James Bond Coins

In 2020, the Royal Mint launched a series of collectible silver coins to honor the release of a 25th feature film in the Eon Production series of James Bond films. The upcoming release of a milestone film in the franchise pushed mints around the world to celebrate with a range of collectible silver coins. At the Royal Mint, this consisted of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 2 oz proof silver coins with unique packaging. The available designs include:

    • Bond, James Bond: a riff on the secret agent’s famous introduction line, the Bond, James Bond release from the Royal Mint came with a depiction of the famous D85 Aston Martin used by Sean Connery in the role of James Bond in several of the early feature films.
    • Pay Attention 007: the second design released features another of the popular super cars used by James Bond characters. This time the design captures the Wet Nellie, a Lotus Espirit S1 that had been modified by Q for Bond to use underwater as a submarine. It was famously used in the 10th bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me, starring Roger Moore as Bond.

    Myths and Legends Series

Introduced in 2021, the new Myths and Legends Series from the Royal Mint starts with the depiction of a British folk hero. Robin Hood famously stole from the rich to give to the poor people in English society. Taking cover in the woods of Sherwood Forest and battling the tax collectors and forces of the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood “recollected” tax dollars headed for local nobles and the monarchy to redistribute to the poor. With 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver, the coins bear the following designs:

    • 2021 Robin Hood
    • 2022 Little John
    • 2022 Maid Marian
    • 2023 King Arthur
    • 2023 Merlin
    • 2023 Morgan Le Fay

A hallmark of the Myths & Legends Series is its use of separate three-coin series within the collection. You’ll notice that the first three issues feature characters from the tales of Robin Hood, while the second collection has so far featured two figures from the myth of King Arthur and Camelot.

The Myths & Legends Series is one of several from the Royal Mint that cross the divide between the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III. In the Myths & Legends Series, you’ll find two different busts on the obverse:

    • 2022-2023 (through King Arthur): Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse in right-profile relief. Designed in 2015, this image debuted in 2016 and shows Elizabeth II at the age of 89 in right-profile relief.
    • 2023-onward (Merlin release and later): His Majesty King Charles III features in left-profile relief. Created in late 2022 by Martin Jennings, this image shows the new king wearing a suit with no crown on his head.

    Pobjoy Mint Bullion

In addition to the Royal Mint of England, you will find British silver bullion coins from the Pobjoy Mint. The largest private mint of its kind in Europe, the Pobjoy Mint is located in Surrey, England, and produces commemorative coins and bullion pieces. The family-owned and operated mint was founded in 1965 and issues bullion for a number of British Overseas Territories, including Ascension Island, the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and Tristan da Cunha.
