Featured Rare Coins from JM Bullion

As JM Bullion obtains rare coins, these items will be prominently displayed on our feature page for rare pieces. Among the rare coins you’ll find here are specimens from various eras of history, including Pre-1933 US Gold coins, historic US silver dollars, and a variety of other historic denominations. Each piece has a unique background, from its minting and design to the era it was produced in and any unique flaws that make it a truly remarkable specimen. Explore our featured coins on this page and learn a little more about the unique categories you will find therein.

    Pre-1933 US Gold

From 1794 to 1933, the United States Mint issued gold coins as part of the foundation of American currency. The US Eagle Series, with its $20, $10, $5, and $2.50 denominations, represents the longest-running series of gold coins from the US Mint, with $3 and $1 gold coins issued for brief periods of American history. While millions of these coins were produced over nearly 150 years of US history, countless specimens were collected by the government and melted down during the Great Depression. Surviving specimens today, particularly those in Mint State conditions from lower mintages, are popular with rare coin collectors.

    Historic Silver Dollars

One of the first forms of coinage offered by the United States Mint was the Silver Dollar. Struck with 90% silver, these coins are most commonly represented today by the Morgan Silver Dollar. While other examples, such as the Seated Liberty Dollar and the Peace Dollar, come with unique historical significance, the Morgan Dollar is more available to rare coin buyers. For example, the Morgan Silver Dollar was produced from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921, resulting in a cross-section of coins extending from the era of the American Wild West and the Industrial Revolution to the early 20th century and the dawn of the Roaring 20s.

Cents, Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves

While gold coins and silver dollars often come to mind first with collectors and investors, other denominations of American and world currency provide their own rich layers of cultural and coinage history. Examples from the United States include pieces like the Draped Bust Cent, the Shield Nickel, the Barber Coinage Series (dime/quarter/half dollar), and the modern redesigns of the Mercury Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter, and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar (all in 1916) deliver historical significance and rare value to collectors.

    Commemorative Issues

One of the more unique subsets of rare coins is commemorative issues. These coins often capture a very specific snapshot of coining history as the designs are tied to a specific period, event, and/or landmark. Many are produced with low mintage figures and older specimens are typically harder to find in good condition, allowing the original design to shine through.
