The dragon is often portrayed as an evil monster in Western depictions. However, in Asian mythology, the dragon is associated with auspicious qualities, such as good luck, health, and fortune. The Golden State Mint (GSM) celebrates the Year of the Dragon in 2024 with this 1 oz GSM Year of the Dragon Copper Round. Order yours today, at JM Bullion.

The Year of the Dragon commences on February 10, 2024, coinciding with the Chinese New Year. The dragon is the 5th animal in the Chinese zodiac and is the lone mythical creature of the 12. The story goes that the Jade Emperor created a race across a rapid river, with the 12 animals who finished first, being represented in the zodiac. The dragon was 5th, and as such, is the 5th on the zodiac.
A dragon is on the obverse field of the GSM Year of the Dragon Copper Round. The dragon is seen in left-profile relief, flying across the design field. Also displayed are identifying marks of the round, along with a moon, and the traditional Chinese character for the dragon.
The 12 Chinese zodiac animals are on the reverse side of the 1 oz Year of the Dragon Copper Round. All 12 animals are shown on a wheel, each in left-profile relief. Each animal also has their traditional Chinese character for that animal displayed underneath it.
Each 1 oz GSM Year of the Dragon Copper Round will arrive in individual protective plastic flips. Larger orders come in tubes of 20.
