The 2012 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin allows you to hold a piece of Americana in your hands. They are some of the most sought-after coins in the world, providing a slice of American nostalgia that is a great investment as well as a collectible piece. Every American Gold Eagle is made from 22-karat gold with small amounts of alloy, which makes the coins harder and better at resisting scratching.
The United States Mints launched the American Eagle Coin program in 1986 featuring gold silver and gold bullion options. Today, you can get silver, gold, platinum, or palladium coins in bullion or proof versions, as well as special colorized versions from time to time. The gold coins also come in a variety of sizes, including fractional options that are more affordable for those on a budget. Each metal type features different designs on both the obverse and reverse faces of the coins.
Lady Liberty can be seen walking in front of the Capitol on the obverse of these coins. The design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ in 1907 for use on the $20 Gold Double Eagle coins that were minted between 1907 and 1933. In the image, Lady Liberty is shown with the sun at her back. Her left hand carried an olive branch, while she carries a flaming torch in her right. On this side of the coin, you can see the inscriptions “Liberty” and the year of mint “2012.”
The reverse face of each 2012 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin, you will see a family of bald eagles. The male is flying back to the nest with an olive branch clutched in his talons. The female and hatchlings are resting quietly in the nest. The image was originally created by sculptor Miley Busiek in 1986 for use on these coins.
